Alexander Street Press is a publisher of award-winning, online collections for scholarly research, teaching, and learning. Our discipline focus extends across the social sciences and humanities, reaching into the sciences, offering full text, audio and video resources in subject specific collections or as a comprehensive video library.
Alexander Street Press, L.L.C. was founded in May 2000, with the goal of publishing large-scale digital collections of exceptional quality in the humanities and social sciences.
From the beginning, we've built products that contained quality in-copyright and previously unpublished material. We also index each database with our unique Semantic Indexing™, which allows scholars to search and analyze our materials as never before.
Today, Alexander Street Press publishes more than 80 collections totaling many millions of pages, audio tracks, videos, images, and playlists.

Sign up here for free access to Women Writing Africa – available to academic libraries in Africa. The Women Writing Africa project aims to restore African women’s voices to the public sphere. Through the publication of a series of regional anthologies, each collecting oral and written narratives as well as a variety of historical and literary texts, the project makes visible the oral and written literary expression of African women. The first of these regional anthologies, subtitled The Southern Region, was published in 2003. The second volume, subtitled West Africa and the Sahel, was published in 2005. Volume 3, covering The Eastern Region, traces the history of five countries—Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia—and was published in 2007. The fourth volume, focused on The Northern Region, includes more than 100 texts from Algeria, Egypt, Mauritania, Morocco, Sudan, and Tunisia. This pioneering volume includes works from 3000 BCE to the present; from an Egyptian queen’s marriage proposal to contemporary women promoting new marriage and family laws. | ![]() |
