Financial Controller
Alexander Street Press, a privately-held, international 75
person electronic publisher in the humanities and social
sciences, is searching for a Financial Controller. Founded
in 2000, we have grown quickly to become the #1 vendor of
streaming music and video into libraries. Our customer
portfolio includes most major academic research libraries in
North America, as well as a substantial number of academic
institutions and libraries in more than 30 countries
worldwide. We also partner with many top organizations
including The Smithsonian, EMI, Sony-BMG, Warner Bros.,
Harvard University Press, and many more. Historically we’ve
grown at an annual rate in excess of 20% and now have
exciting plans to double from our current size. We’re
looking for an individual that welcomes this challenge and
that would like to take an active role in making it happen.
Alexander Street is based in Alexandria, Virginia and our
European headquarters are located in the United Kingdom.

As the ideal candidate, you’ll have a very strong knowledge
of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control using
Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; prior supervisory
experience of financial operations, a deep knowledge of
automated financial and accounting reporting systems; a
demonstrable knowledge of deferred revenue and revenue
recognition principles; and an ability to prepare financial
reports. Previous experience of Great Plains is highly
desirable and a thorough understanding of Excel is a
pre-requisite.
As a member of our management team, you must have
outstanding professional written, verbal communication and
interpersonal skills when interacting with all levels of our
company and top levels of our partner companies. You should
welcome the challenge of motivating teams to produce quality
information and analysis within tight timeframes, whilst
simultaneously managing several projects.
A CPA designation is an absolute requirement. Your basic
education and experience should include a Bachelors Degree
in Accounting (or equivalent) with at least eight years in a
supervisory-level finance/accounting position. The position
of Financial Controller reports directly to the CFO, who is
based in the UK.
