Alexander Street Press Now Offers Media Hosting Service
(ALEXANDRIA, VA)—Alexander Street Press today announced a new streaming hosting service for libraries. Libraries with streaming rights to content will now be able to host their music and video assets on a single, high-functionality platform—in effect providing one-stop streaming for their patrons.
Video and audio content will be streamed using Alexander Street’s new platform, which has been specifically built to deliver streaming media to libraries and higher education. Over 28,000 unique titles are now available on the interface, which is used by more than 4,000 libraries around the world.
Jordan White, product manager for the new hosting service, said, “Our video and listening platform is recognized as one of the best and farthest reaching in the industry. We’ve had a number of requests from libraries to use it for their own content. That’s what we’re making available now.”
All local content hosted on the platform will include features like fully searchable transcripts, discovery service integration, COUNTER-compliant usage statistics, MARC records, and annotation and clip-making tools that let library patrons find and use video far more effectively than with simple streaming solutions.
The first partner of the service—Tufts University—is expected to launch their content on the new interface before the end of the year. This will make thousands of music tracks produced by Tufts accessible to their patrons on the Alexander Street platform, allowing users to cite, analyze, annotate, and share materials as never before.
Libraries interested in partnering with Alexander Street to host their streaming content are encouraged to contact Kathleen Saylor, assistant editor, at ksaylor [at] alexanderstreet [dot] com or visit http://www.alexanderstreet.com/mediahost.
