The Royal Shakespeare Company Collection

Modern recordings help you bring Shakespeare to life in the classroom. The Royal Shakespeare Company Collection offers high-definition recordings of The Bard’s dramatic canon, featuring the world’s best Shakespearean actors and directors, along with supplemental teaching materials to help students engage more deeply with the material and enhance the overall learning experience.

High-quality Shakespeare productions are always in demand. With The Royal Shakespeare Company Collection, your library can offer high-definition, surround-sound recordings of modern productions featuring the world’s best Shakespearean actors, like David Tennant, Sir Antony Sher, Paapa Essiedu, and Simon Russell Beale, and directors like Robin Lough and Dewi Humphrey. Recordings are accompanied by production images, teacher packs, and study notes to enhance student understanding of these important plays.

The collection will add new Royal Shakespeare Company productions as they are filmed, as the RSC works through Shakespeare’s canon. Alexander Street now offers the full recordings and accompanying materials for 34 titles including:

  • Richard II
  • Henry IV Part 1
  • Henry IV Part 2
  • The Two Gentlemen of Verona
  • Love's Labour's Lost
  • Love's Labour's Won ("Much Ado About Nothing")
  • Henry V
  • The Merchant of Venice
  • Othello
  • Hamlet
  • King Lear
  • Cymbeline
  • The Tempest

Enhance Classroom Study

Each production is accompanied by a teacher pack that offers an in-depth look on the making of the production, guides instructors through each story, and provides activities that encourage active learning. Additional high-resolution production stills allow students to take a closer look, down to the detail of a costume or the lighting of a scene.

Alexander Street offers a powerful, enhanced learning platform that really maximizes the teaching potential of productions like these. From the synchronous, searchable scrolling transcripts that can be double as onscreen transcripts (improving comprehension for all students) to a clip making tool and playlists with stable URLS (making it easier to study particular scenes or monologues), the Alexander Street platform makes Shakespeare more accessible than ever before.
