Alexander Street to Bring Sony Pictures Classics Streaming Video and Academy Award® Winning Films to U.S. College and University Libraries

Alexandria, VA – Alexander Street announced today its exclusive streaming library agreement with Sony Pictures Classics. The arrangement will stream Sony Pictures Classics films to U.S. college and university libraries and faculty via Alexander Street’s Patron-Driven Acquisition (PDA) platform and also through single-title-streaming direct subscriptions. More than 300 Sony Pictures Classics titles, released from 1992 to 2015 are included in the agreement.
According to Will Whalen, vice president for licensing at Alexander Street, “The Sony Pictures Classics catalog offers the best world cinema titles from the 90s to today, with a strong documentary emphasis as well. Films in the producer’s catalog have received 133 Academy Award® nominations, with 33 Academy Award® wins, including thirteen awards for Best Foreign Language Film and four for Best Documentary Feature. The many Oscar®-nominated films include works by filmmakers such as Louis Malle, Wim Wenders, Francis Ford Coppola, Ang Lee, Mike Leigh, Asghar Farhadi, Roman Polanski, Michael Haneke, David Cronenberg, Eric Rohmer, Terry Gilliam, Ismail Merchant, Errol Morris, Ingmar Bergman, Pedro Almodovar, and others.”
