Feature Film and Exclusive Content PDA Collections Now Available

February 26, 2016

Alexandria, VA – February 26, 2016 – Alexander Street today announced the launch of two Patron-driven Acquisition (PDA) specialty collections: PDA: Feature Film and PDA: Select.

PDA: Feature Film is an innovative collection that gives users access to hundreds of feature films, silent films, and world cinema titles. Many are exclusive to Alexander Street. Top content providers in PDA: Feature Film include:

  • The Criterion Collection
  • First Run Features
  • Zeitgeist Films
  • DEFA Film
  • Oscilloscope
  • Pragda Films
  • Global Lens
  • Film Movement
  • British Film Institute
  • Flicker Alley

PDA: Select includes 7,000+ exclusive-only titles offered by the organization. With PDA: Select, libraries can provide access to high quality academic films available nowhere else and it won’t overlap with existing PDA programs already in place. Content spans many subject areas, including:

  • Anthropology
  • Counseling and therapy
  • Business
  • Documentary and feature film
  • Education
  • History
  • Fashion
  • Music and dance
  • News and current affairs
  • Drama

Patron-driven Acquisition (PDA) for streaming video allows libraries to offer broad access to video, while paying only for the most relevant video to patrons. For many of the films offered in Alexander Street’s PDA program, libraries have the option to upgrade from a one-year subscription to either a three-year subscription or a perpetual outright purchase. It is the only PDA program available that includes both subscription and perpetual ownership options, providing long-term flexibility for libraries and in many cases, the best return on investment for smaller acquisition budgets.

“These two specialty PDA collections are designed to supplement the existing video programs that a library may have in place,” said David Parker, Senior Vice President of Licensing and Editorial at Alexander Street. “It is a simple add-on that makes sense for virtually every academic library using video for teaching, learning, and research.”
