This collection is the most comprehensive of its kind and features high-caliber content from the archives of Videofashion, the world’s premier provider of fashion video footage. More than 80 percent of the films are exclusive to this online database, giving access to nearly 1,000 hours of footage that can’t be found in any other resource.

Content covers both the behind-the-scenes work and the end garments that appeared in stores and on runways in Milan, Paris, London, and New York. It showcases decades of work from top designers and labels including:

  • Giorgio Armani
  • Chanel
  • Oscar de la Renta
  • Christian Dior
  • Fendi

“Fashion is a living, breathing field,” said Nathalie Duval, director at Alexander Street Press. “It changes and develops every day, and it’s important to understand not only where it is at this moment, but also where it’s been. No experience can compare to watching the world’s iconic garments walk down the runway for the very first time or witnessing designers' evolutions across the years, and with this database, that’s finally possible.”

June Frontlist Releases From Alexander Street Press

(ALEXANDRIA, VA) – Powerful new online academic collections are now available from Alexander Street Press in the fields of international business, human resource management, counseling and therapy, and Asian film.

The two newest resources in the Business division—International Business Online and Human Resource Management Onlineare available as stand-alone resources or as part of the 360-degree learning solution Business Education Complete Online. The collections provide a thoughtful mix of applied content, curated by experts and carefully aligned to common syllabi in HR and international business.

Each individual business database is growing to comprise 4,000 primary source documents, including corporate training videos, instructional films, case studies, text book chapters, research reports, sample business documents, and self-assessments. Materials come from the top organizations in their respective fields including Atma Global, the Thunderbird School of Management, the Society of Human Resource Management, the Kellogg School of Management, and Seven Dimensions.

“These resources have the power to change the way people in business programs teach and learn,” said David Parker, business publisher at Alexander Street Press. “When you have the best publishers in the industry all together at your fingertips, and the advanced features to share and remix that information, there’s no limit to what you can do.”

The new volume Counseling and Psychotherapy Transcripts: Volume II builds upon the success of Volume I, which Library Journal named a 2011 Best Niche Product. The volume’s 4,000 authentic transcripts give researchers and therapists-in-training the opportunity to examine the skills and approaches of experienced professionals in real therapy settings. All sessions featured in Volume II were recorded in 2012 or later, so users can rely on the collection to provide the most accurate, up-to-date look at the realities of the counseling field.

“Records of therapy experiences are often tricky to find, forcing researchers to rely on incomplete, sporadic excerpts,” said Elizabeth Robey, counseling editor at Alexander Street Press. “The transcripts in this collection will open gateways for researchers to make reliable, real-life observations and draw empirical, data-driven conclusions about the therapy process.”

Also just launched, Asian Film Online: Volume II builds upon the acclaimed first volume to provide 500 hours of feature films, documentaries, and shorts capturing authentic Asian voices. The second volume features films from 70 countries across Asia—including in-depth coverage of Turkey, Hong Kong, Afghanistan, and Vietnam—that bring the vibrancy of each culture to life.

No special setup or software is required—all you need is an Internet browser. For more information or to request a trial or price quote, email sales [at] alexanderstreet [dot] com.

Alexander Street Press Strikes Agreement with EC Comics

More than 10,000 pages to be added to latest volume of online collection

(ALEXANDRIA, VA) – Alexander Street Press has entered into an agreement with EC Comics to add more than 50 key series—a total of 400 issues—from the celebrated publisher into the recently launched online collection Underground and Independent Comics, Comix, and Graphic Novels: Volume II.

“EC’s amazing line of horror, crime, fantasy, and romance titles were perhaps the biggest single influence on the first underground comix artists, and continue to be the source of inspiration and admiration for the independent comics artists of today,” says Greg Urquhart, comics editor at Alexander Street Press. “These works are essential to anyone interested in the form, history, and evolution of comics and comics culture.”

Notable series being added to the recently launched second volume of Alexander Street’s acclaimed comics collection include such titles as Tales from the Crypt, Two-fisted Tales, Weird Science-fantasy, Haunt of Fear, and Crime SuspenStories, featuring early works by such artists as Johnny Craig, Reed Crandall, Jack Davis, Will Elder, George Evans, Frank Frazetta, Graham Ingels, Jack Kamen, Bernard Krigstein, Joe Orlando, John Severin, Al Williamson, Basil Wolverton, and Wally Wood.

Founded in 1944 by Max Gaines and soon thereafter taken over by his son, William Gaines, EC focused on publishing stories and art of unparalleled quality, and soon became one of the largest comics publishers in the United States. As the most notable publisher of horror, crime, and fantasy comics of the time, they came under intense scrutiny by parental and government groups in the 1940s and 1950s, leading to the suspension of their comics lines soon after the establishment of the Comics Code Authority in 1954.

EC Comics issues will be added to the Underground and Independent Comics, Comix, and Graphic Novels collection throughout the coming months. All content will be delivered on Alexander Street Press’s cutting-edge online platform, which provides dozens of powerful features, including:

  • Tools for adding favorite issues or pages into a shareable online playlist
  • Indexing to help patrons search and discover new artists, series, and genres with ease
  • Access for unlimited simultaneous users
  • And more

Evidence-Based Acquisition Expanded to U.S. Consortia

(FAIRFAX, VA) –The Arizona University Library Consortium has become the first library group in North America to join Alexander Street’s pilot program for evidence-based acquisition (EBA) of video resources.

The Arizona University Library Consortium comprises the University of Arizona, Arizona State University, and Northern Arizona State University. For a full year, authorized users at these institutions will have unlimited access to Alexander Street’s complete suite of streaming video content, which includes 28,000 titles, with more than 1,000 added annually. At the end of the access year, library administrators will use Alexander Street's COUNTER-compliant statistics and customer usage reports—including details down to the title level—to select which videos they’d like own in perpetuity. The library is not obligated to purchase the most-viewed titles; it can instead use usage metrics as evidence to inform the decision on what to incorporate into the permanent collection.

“Video collection development is a complicated process,” says deg farrelly, media librarian at Arizona State University Libraries. “EBA simplifies the process of assuring that high quality, academically appropriate content is available to our users.”

"Letting a library hand-curate a collection is tremendously valuable," said Jordan White, senior product manager at Alexander Street Press. "This model gives a library maximum flexibility to select the individual films it needs to support its various programs in a cost-effective way."

The Arizona University Library Consortium’s deal follows agreements from George Mason University in the United States, The University of Dundee and Leeds Metropolitan University in the UK, The University of New South Wales and The University of Queensland in Australia, and The University of Malaya in Malaysia.

Evidence-based acquisition options are available to academic, public, and school libraries worldwide. All videos feature Alexander Street’s trademark functionality, including semantic indexing, synchronized transcripts, free MARC records, and more. Alexander Street Expands EBA in the UK

(LONDON, ENGLAND)Alexander Street Press has forged an agreement with the UK champion of digital technology in education and research, Jisc, to provide access to video resources for colleges and universities in the UK using the publisher’s popular evidence-based acquisition (EBA) model.

The EBA agreement gives colleges and universities in the UK the opportunity to have unlimited access to Alexander Street Press’s complete suite of academic video titles—more than 33,000 titles—for up to one year at a time. At the end of this period, university staff can use Alexander Street Press’ detailed metrics to evaluate their patrons’ most-viewed titles and select those they’d like to incorporate into their permanent collection.

“We are delighted to have reached this agreement with Jisc,” said Gareth Bish, UK and Ireland sales manager at Alexander Street Press, “not only because of their dedication to providing UK institutions with market-leading academic resources for scholarly research, teaching, and learning, but also because they are highly trusted by the academic library community to negotiate license agreements for digital media via flexible business models such as this. We are thrilled to have their support for our EBA programme. In return, as part of our commitment to driving and analyzing usage, we will be working with Jisc on enhanced provision of usage statistics for academic libraries.”

This agreement is the result of heightened interest in EBA following agreements made in 2013 with Dundee University and Leeds Metropolitan University and will further pave the way for libraries worldwide to add the most highly sought-after content to their collections in a precise, cost-effective way.

Lorraine Estelle, executive director content and discovery and divisional CEO Jisc Collections, Jisc said: “Jisc Collections is very pleased to work with Alexander Street Press on bringing this evidence based acquisition model to the attention of academic libraries. The model has worked very successfully for some libraries in the acquisition of e-books and we believe it has the same potential in the area of multimedia.”
